About Policy

SUPRA's Policy Committee researches and advises the SUPRA Council on Federal, State and campus education issues, and provide strategic advice on improvements in policy and practice that might lead to benefits for SUPRA's Constituents. Through this work, they aim to ensure that when your student representatives appear at Academic Board, Graduate Studies Committee or in other relevant forums, they are well-briefed and able to be effective in their advocacy for SUPRA's Constituents. The Student Adviser and Advocacy Officers also assists with the drafting of submissions of various kinds.

In respect of internal University of Sydney issues, SUPRA has done work in areas such as:

  • Intellectual Property
  • Supervision
  • Responsible Research Practice
  • Academic Honesty
  • Harrassment & Discrimination Prevention
  • Examination and Assessment of Coursework.

In relation to broader policy issues outside the University, the Policy Committee assist the SUPRA Council to monitor and (where relevant and appropriate) make representations in respect of legislative and regulatory issues affecting SUPRA's Constituents.

You might never have cause to read the detail of policies reveiwed and worked on, but you should be reassured by the fact that we are doing so on your behalf. Information and briefings to help Constituents understand developments are contained on the Contribute page and through various publications throughout the year. We welcome your comments and feedback on these issues.
